Getting all of that hard water and soap residue off of your showerhead might be more challenging than you expect!

Cleaning your bathroom is a tedious and thankless job. And sometimes, it can even feel pointless. What’s the use when the facilities are just going to be grimy again a few hours or a few days later? But something is comforting about having a clean-looking bathroom. Beyond the simple aesthetic pleasure, a pristine bathroom is better for your health. Even so, getting all of that hard water and soap residue off of your showerhead might be more challenging than you expect!

Why Baking Soda is So Effective

Baking soda is an extremely effective cleaning solution. It’s versatile enough to be used in several ways beyond simple food prep. Without baking soda, cakes, quick bread, and soda bread wouldn’t be the same. Sodium bicarbonate is only a little bit basic on the pH scale. This means it can cancel out the acidity. That’s why it’s such a common ingredient in antacids that you need to stop acid reflux! When you mix baking soda with vinegar, a chemical reaction creates a cleaning agent that eliminates grime virtually anywhere you use it.

Baking soda also gets rid of bad odors. Since kitchens could have lingering cooking smells (and in the bathroom, something worse!) This remedy is a quick way to make weird or unpleasant smells go away.  And if you’ve noticed bugs crawling around in your bathroom, consider using baking soda to stop them.

Getting the Showerhead Ready

Cleaning the showerhead is much easier when it’s disassembled. Remove it from its fixture. You’ll have to loosen the nut with a wrench. Once that’s done, you can unscrew the head. Don’t use pliers, or you might scratch the metallic finish. After those steps are complete, put the head under some running water. Doing this will get rid of some dirt that’s already stuck on. A baking soda paste makes for a nifty deep cleaner once you’re done rinsing.

Proven Cleaning Techniques

You might be wondering how you’re supposed to make the paste we mentioned above: mix the soda with some water! And, as noted, vinegar works too. Mixing the baking soda with vinegar and dish soap will do an even better job of cleaning grime and soap scum. To make sure the vinegar mixture achieves the best results, dunk the head in a bucket filled with the solution. Then you’ll need to give the whole setup time to work its magic. That means if you let it “steep” overnight, all you have to do the next day is rinse with some warm water. This way, you can remove the vinegar residue.
