Why Am I Running Out of Water? Understanding Hot Water Heater Problems

Are you having hot water heater problems? It may be the result of one of these factors.

You are taking your morning shower and relaxing under the warm spray, only to feel a chill run down your spine as the temperature of the water plummets. Running out of hot water can be incredibly frustrating, even if you aren’t in the shower. In some cases, this might be unavoidable due to the capacity of your hot water heater. However, other times it is an indicator of a larger problem. The Master Plumbing team can help you resolve this issue.

Too Much Sediment

Your municipal water treatment facility typically treats the water that comes into your home, but it will not remove excess minerals like calcium and magnesium. As a result, these minerals can accumulate in any devices in your house that rely on water. When the water in your hot water heater warms up, some minerals will be dissolved and deposited at the bottom of your tank. This becomes a layer of sediment. After a certain period of months or years, the sediment might reduce the amount of hot water you can access.

Faulty Heating Element

The average hot water heater uses two different heating elements to keep the water warm. One element is at the top of the tank, and the other is at the bottom. If your lower or upper heating element fails, you might have less warm water than you are used to. Additionally, you might feel like the water isn’t quite as hot as it used to be.

Too Much Strain

If your family has grown significantly since you first purchased your hot water heater, you might have simply outgrown it. A hot water heater should be sized based on how many people use it and how much water you use every month. Any time you use a great deal of water in a short period, an adjustment might need to be made to your hot water heating system. We can help you evaluate your current system and adjust it so that you always have enough hot water.
