It won’t be long now until summer is over. Once the kids are back in school, it’ll start to sink in that summer really is over. The summer is full of slow, lazy days, but in the fall, the rush to get to school could use up a lot of water. Here’s how to save that water instead.
Change Your Routine
Start saving more water by changing your routine. For instance, don’t let the water run when you’re brushing your teeth. It might seem like a nuisance, but turn it off when you don’t need it. You can also try taking shorter showers – even a minute or two can help you save 150 gallons every month! That’s incredible! If you prefer to wait for hot water then you can grab a bucket and fill it with cold water. Then set that bucket aside and use it go to water your plants after you’ve had your shower.
Fix Faucets and Toilets
Leaky faucets and toilets that won’t stop running are also huge headaches. Not only will they aggravate you, but they’ll also waste plenty of water. So if a steady drip from your sink faucet is getting to you, then it’s time to find out what you can do to fix it. If your toilet is too noisy, it might have something to do with the flapper. That should put a stop to all of the noise.
Reuse Your Water
Whenever you’re done using water for cooking you probably think that’s all it can do for you. Instead of pouring it out, allow that water to cool down and then recycle it. Take it outside and give it to your plants, flowers, and seeds.
Help Everyone Understand
Your kids probably won’t understand why it’s important to save water. However, this is a great way to spend some quality time together and teach your children about the value of natural resources. When everyone knows why they should save water, they’ll be more inclined to do it.
