Pretty much any home is going to have a water heater. It’s used for many parts of our homes, such as sinks, dishwashers, and showers. Eventually, your water heater will need to be given some attention in order to keep it running smoothly. Today, we’ll be going over how to properly maintain your water heater so that it can last you for the longest time possible.
Perform an Inspection
While water heaters can be overlooked, it can’t be understated how much work they do for your home. Since they’re constantly working, it’s important to check on them occasionally. You’d be amazed what a simple visual inspection can uncover about the condition of your heater. Keep an ear open for any strange sounds your heater might make, as these can indicate problems it’s experiencing. You also want to check for any rust, or other signs of wear so you can make the necessary repairs or replacements.
Get Your Water Heater Flushed
You should take the time to flush your water heater either once or twice every year. By doing this, you keep sediment and other debris from piling up within your heater. If sediment is allowed to accumulate too much, your heater can be damaged, which can shorten its life expectancy. As a result, you’ll have to replace your heater much sooner, which will cost you more money in the long run.
Get Your Air Filter Replaced
For those who have tankless water heaters, it’s important to have steady airflow. This way, water will be hot and available whenever you need it. When your air filter gets clogged, your heater could get damaged, which can cause the entire unit to stop functioning as it usually does. If your air filter cannot be preserved, it’s best to get it replaced with a new one.
