Getting a Toilet Repair Vs. Toilet Replacement

Getting a Toilet Repair Vs. Toilet Replacement
Today, we’ll be going over scenarios in which a toilet repair is better versus when a toilet replacement is better.

A typical household will have a minimum of three toilets in it. With this many toilets around the house, it makes sense that homeowners will eventually reach a point at which one of these toilets is no longer working. This is when you’ll have to make the decision to either repair your toilet or get it replaced. Today, we’ll be going over scenarios in which a toilet repair is better versus when a toilet replacement is better.

When to Get a Toilet Repair

Faulty Flushing

If it takes multiple flushes to finish using a toilet, you could be facing a number of minor issues. It could be low water level, a flapper that closes too soon, or a clog. These problems are fixable by a professional plumber, so it’s best to seek their help to get your toilet back to normal.

The Bowl or Tank Doesn’t Refill

Sometimes, after a toilet is flushed, it won’t fill up all of the way with water. Usually, in this situation, something is wrong with the fill valve. The valve is able to be replaced by a professional plumber, and this is a great way to keep from having to replace your entire toilet.

When to Get a Toilet Replacement

There is Constant Clogging

While a toilet clog is far from uncommon, it shouldn’t be an incredibly frequent occurrence. If toilet clogs are constantly happening, it means that mineral deposits could’ve built up along the top of the drain. With enough mineral deposit accumulation, water could have a tough time getting through your pipes.

You could have a drain cleaning service try to fix the pipes for you. If this doesn’t stop the clogging, however, replacing your toilet is likely the best option.

The Toilet Moves as You Sit On It

Toilets are supposed to be steady, meaning they should never move. A wobbly toilet is an indicator that it’s not safe to use. Before you get a new toilet, though, just be sure that the bolts on your toilet seat are tightened. If tightening these bolts doesn’t fix your problem, there could be a bigger issue at play here. You may need to get your toilet replaced, but check with a plumber to determine if that’s truly the best course of action to take.
