Signs That Your Water Heater is Broken

Signs That Your Water Heater is Broken

Read on to learn about signs that your water heater is broken.

No home wants to be without hot water. We use hot water to operate many of our appliances, such as washing machines, showers, and dishwashers. When you can’t get hot water for your house, your water heater is likely not in good shape, but how can you tell when something is wrong with it? Read on to learn about signs that your water heater is broken.

Your Water Heater Tank Leaks From the Top

Your hot water tank could leak from a few different places. If you ever notice a leak in your tank, the source of the leak will determine what your next course of action should be.

One potential place for a leak is at the top of your hot water tank. There are certain areas that could be leaking, like near the pipe of the pressure release valve,  hot water outlet, or cold water inlet. These areas can often be repaired without too much difficulty, as long as you hire the right company to handle the repairs.

If your tank leak is within the threads of your pressure relief valve or your vent collar, you have a bigger problem on your hands. These problems often mean you’ll have to replace your hot water tank entirely.

Your Pilot Light is Not On

A gas water heater uses a blue flame that’s referred to as a pilot light, and it’s a necessity for your water heater to have. There may come a time, however, when this light goes out. In this situation, call your local professional plumber to come by and replace this light for you. While some people may try to replace this light on their own, there are safety concerns that might make a DIY approach less appealing.

Your Water Heats Up Slowly

Maybe you’ve noticed that your shower takes longer than expected to warm up. Perhaps you get hot water running only to find that the hot water goes away in just a matter of moments. In both of these situations, your water heater is likely the source of the issue, and it’ll require professional intervention to resolve.
