Signs That You Should Get a Water Heater Replacement

Signs That You Should Get a Water Heater Replacement

Here are signs that you should get a water heater replacement.

Hot water is a luxury that is greatly appreciated in people’s homes. We use hot water to run dishes, do laundry, and bathe, among other things. In order to get hot water, however, you need a functional water heater. Unfortunately, every water heater will eventually reach a point when it will be best to get it replaced, but how will you know when you’ve reached that point? Here are signs that you should get a water heater replacement.

There’s Water Gathering Around the Base of Your Water Heater

Your water heater has a steel tank that’s covered with insulation. Over time, this tank will erode, even when given proper maintenance. With enough erosion, water will begin to leak out of this tank. You’ll know there’s a leak when you see a puddle of water around the steel tank. This means that a water heater replacement is recommended.

Keep in mind, however, that not all puddles of water are caused by tank erosion. Sometimes, condensation can be the source as well. In the case of condensation, you may find a small puddle of water, but it should disappear after about a day. Only when puddles are larger and long-lasting should you be concerned.

You See Rusty Water in Your Sink

If you see rusty water in your sink, it could be a sign that you’ll need a water heater replacement. Oftentimes, when you see rust stains on people’s sinks, it’s because there is a rusty water heater tank as well. You’ll need to replace this tank because it’s vital for maintaining good water quality in your home, and for avoiding future water leaks.

Water Smells and Tastes Metallic

Have you noticed that your drinking water has an odd smell or taste to it? Maybe it smells and tastes a little bit like metal? If this is the case for your water, it’s possible that your water heater tank is corroding. This is a problem that’s most common with older tanks, though there are some chemicals that your tap water may have which can cause the tank to corrode sooner. In either case, you’ll want to get a water heater replacement before any more corroding can happen.
