Choosing the Right Toilet Height For Your Home

Choosing the Right Toilet Height For Your Home

Today, we’ll help you decide on the best toilet height for your home.

Some people are taller, while others are shorter. This means that accommodations need to be made for people based on their height. The height of a toilet is no exception. When using a toilet, you want to be able to sit and stand with ease. It’s also important for your feet to rest comfortably whenever you’re seated. So, what is the proper height for your toilet to have? Today, we’ll help you decide on the best toilet height for your home.

Factor in the Height of the People Who Will Use It

The right toilet height will vary based on the height of each person who uses it. That’s why it’s important to consider who will be using your toilet before deciding on the right height to get. For people who are under 5 feet and 4 inches, we’d recommend getting a standard 15-inch model for your house. You might want to get a lower toilet if you’re uncomfortable while you’re sitting, or if you find that your legs are falling asleep.

It might also be better to have a lower toilet if younger people will be using it. While toilets of 15-18 inches are suitable for teenagers and adults, you might want to lower that height to around 12-15 inches if the people using it are in the 5-8 year range.

Does Your Toilet Need to Accommodate People Who Use Wheelchairs?

For those who use wheelchairs, there will be extra obstacles to overcome when transitioning from the wheelchair to the toilet. To make this transition as easy as possible it’s best to have a toilet height that’s level with the wheelchair. You could also have a wall-mounted toilet, which could be up to 28 inches in height.

Consider Those With Physical Disabilities

Will there be anyone using your toilet who has a physical disability? If so, then there will be requirements you must satisfy, in accordance with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). If you follow the requirements put in place by this act, you’ll accommodate the largest number of people possible.
