Hot water is something we don’t always acknowledge as a luxury, but when it’s taken away, we notice it immediately. No one wants their water heater to fail on them, but luckily, you will typically get warning signs that your heater isn’t in the best condition. This way, you can handle the problem before it escalates. Here are some of the signs that your water heater is beginning to fail.
Leaks in Your Heating Tank
Have you noticed any water underneath your heater? Maybe your tank or pipes are dripping water. In some situations, you might just have valves that aren’t closed completely. If this is the case, you can solve the problem easily by tightening any pieces that have come loose. Sometimes, however, your tank really is leaking, in which case, the water heater will need to get replaced.
Hot Water Doesn’t Last Long
Perhaps your hot water doesn’t last as long as it normally would. This could be due to sediment that settles into the water in your heater. If too much sediment accumulates, there won’t be as much room for hot water, meaning you won’t have as much hot water to utilize in your home.
Your water heater needs to get flushed regularly, and if you don’t do this, it could result in too much sediment developing in your heater. If you allow too much sediment to develop, the entire water heater may need replacing.
Water Temperatures in Your Shower are Not Consistent
You likely want your shower at a consistent temperature, so when you find that the temperature fluctuates, your heater may be worth inspecting. Sometimes, you simply have a problem with the thermostat, which can be resolved by replacing it. If you have broken heating elements, though, there could be a bigger issue looming. This means a new water heater could be in your best interest.
